Sanding

Correct and thorough Sanding is a major component of preparing timber and metal to accept new paint. Sanding an existing surface removes any flaky paint and glossy sheen, leaving behind a clean yet uneven surface which new paint will then bond and adhere to securely. Poor sanding preparation results in new paint not adhering correctly to the underlying surface and runs the risk of peeling and flaking. These pictures shows good quality sanding that we achieve with a top range Festool sander next to average sanding done by hand.

Patching Timbers & Frames

Once all timbers, doors, architraves, skirtings and door frames have been sanded correctly an appropriate surface filler is applied. This includes all areas that have natural or trade created imperfections such as nail holes, exposed Mitre joints, countersunk screws, cracks and knots in timbers. These surfaces and patches are then sanded once more and ready to accept the undercoat.

Patching Walls & Ceilings

Walls commonly receive the most damage in homes in the form of chips, cracks and stains. In most cases, applying only a layer of paint over the top of these damaged walls only does 50% of the job, while leaving the defects and imperfections still visible on the surface. It is only when the underlying surface is correctly prepared to excellent condition that the true benefits of fresh paint will emerge. Norwest painting is acutely aware of this, that is why all surfaces from wall to ceiling are extensively repaired prior to painting so as to deliver the best possible finish to our client.

Inspections between coats

This component of our service may be the most striking point of difference between Norwest Painting and others. Every stage between sanding and preparation to painting and maintenance are subject to stringent quality controls by our in-house inspectors. Ask yourself – Has your previous commercial painting contractors ever inspected their work under spotlight or had any quality controls in place? This is what separates Norwest Painting from the rest.
